13 fires still raging in the southern Turkey, in 6 districts in the Antalya and the Muggle, according to the Turkish Forestry Minister, Bekir Pakdemirli. For the seventh day the country is battling the flames and some neighbourhoods have been evacuated.
Firefighting continued overnight, while a new fire broke out in a forest area this morning in Mugla, on the Aegean coast.
The reason the fire is spreading is the so-called ’crazy Mehmet’ wind, which blows from a different direction each time, constantly fanning the flames. The beaches were closed and tourist bookings were cancelled until 10 August.
