A few hours after the conclusion of the explosive press conference held by the Greek and Turkish foreign ministers, Ankara – as revealed Saturday night by OPEN’s main newscast – sent a Turkish frigate into the maritime zone covered by the Greek-Egyptian agreement, demanding that the French research vessel «L’Atalante,» which was conducting research, to leave.
A Greek Navy frigate was in the area and is monitoring the movements of the Turkish frigate, as this is the first time Turkey has challenged the Greek-Egyptian agreement in light of the illegal Turkish-Libyan memorandum.
The Greek NAVTEX regarding the research being conducted by the French oceanographic vessel southeast of Crete will end tomorrow, Sunday.
