Kythiraean Dialect
The Kytheraic idiom has common elements with the Cretan dialect and the idioms of Mani and this is explained by the geographical position of the island between Crete and the Southern Peloponnese. The vocabulary is for the most part similar to Cretan. The Venetian rule in the Ionian Islands for about six centuries fed the local dialects with many Latin-Italian words. We list here the Kythiraean words collected from the Kythiraean literature.
