In a statement, the «Triphylion Foundation of Kytheria» refers to the recent outbreak of coronavirus cases, observed in both staff and inmates of the Nursing Home and which he attributes to the general relaxation in the observance of the measures against the pandemic on the island.
The announcement follows:
«After more than two years of strict food protection measures at the Kythera Nursing Home, we have had 11 outbreaks so far these days among the food. It seems that this was also inevitable finally after a long period, when, especially in the last two months, we had an unjustified general relaxation in the observance of the measures against the pandemic in Kythera as well. This has led to our island being in the upper risk category, i.e. in the red, for the last few weeks in particular. The contagiousness of the Omicron strain, the relaxation in mask use, social confusion and, especially, the indifference to implementing short-day isolation measures by many who are positive for the virus, who continued to circulate normally and come into contact with healthy people, were fatal in infecting a large number of people and eventually bringing the virus to the nursing home, despite the measures taken.
After the outbreaks were found in the staff, which immediately led to temporary removal, we unfortunately also had outbreaks in the inmates, which seems to have been inevitable, although the staff were systematically checked day after day and in accordance with the protocol of the EODY. Inmates were also checked periodically and, after the outbreak occurred, all were checked again and will continue to be checked as long as required in accordance with the protocols. We hope and pray that those who have tested positive do not have any serious complications and we stress that we are in constant contact with the health authorities for any case where their intervention is deemed necessary. If necessary we will come back with a further update.»
