On Sunday, December 8, 2024, the “Tree of Love,” an initiative that began in Kythira, was featured on Alpha TV’s main newscast, bringing the true spirit of Christmas to the forefront. A week later, the impact of the initiative continues to move and inspire, as the images and messages of humanity it highlighted remain vivid in everyone’s memory.

The initiative, which aims to raise funds to support “The Smile of the Child,” turned into a celebration of humanity and solidarity once again this year. Many island residents participated, supporting the effort with their own valuable contributions. The children played a leading role, decorating the tree with colorful balls, filling the space with smiles and everyone’s hearts with hope.
The organizer of the event, Irini Dim. Vlachou, publicly thanked everyone who supported the initiative, highlighting the importance of participation and collective effort. “This year, our little tree has grown, reaching more hearts,” she noted, while committing to full transparency in the management of the proceeds, which will be donated in their entirety to “The Smile of the Child.”.
This initiative highlights the true meaning of Christmas and reminds us of the power of community to make a difference. Through initiatives such as the “Tree of Love,” Kythira sends its own message of hope, care, and generosity, inspiring the rest of Greece.
Read the message from Ms. Irini Vlachou:
Dear friends,
It is with great emotion and joy that I inform you that, for the second consecutive year, the “Tree of Love” event has been successfully completed! A special celebration of humanity, aimed at conveying the true spirit of Christmas.
This year, we filled our souls with values and watched our “little tree” grow. It grew taller and reached more hearts, thanks to your participation. Our team has grown and been joined by people who have contributed—either openly or anonymously—demonstrating their love and support through their actions.
Our children deserve a special “thank you”! To the children who came, decorated with their balls, and filled the world with love, comfort, and hope. With their selflessness and vitality, they showed us once again what Christmas is truly all about.
I wholeheartedly wish everyone good health, joy, love, and happiness. Merry Christmas, and may the new year be filled with countless smiles.
I would like to inform you that all proceeds from this event will be donated to “The Smile of the Child.” As was the case last year, proof of payment will be posted publicly to ensure transparency and keep you fully informed.
Sincerely,
Eirini Dim. Vlachou
