Three Circulars on electoral procedures in Municipalities and Regions on January 9

The Ministry of the Interior has issued detailed instructions for the conduct of the electoral procedures on January 9 in the municipalities and regions of the country, to elect the Presiding Officers of Municipal and Regional Councils and the members of the Economic Committee and the Quality of Life Committee.

Specifically, on the 29th^η On December 12, three relevant Circulars were issued, as follows:

I] The No. 933/96605/29.12.2021 Circular on the topic of «Election of Municipal Council Presidium members», concerns the following issues:

• the health measures that must be observed in the procedures,

• the election year and term of office of the members of the Municipal Council Presidium,

• the formation of the Presidium,

• the election process,

• the Invitation,

• the election (Phase A: nomination of candidates for each position by the relevant political group; Phase B: election of the President, Vice-President, and Secretary by the entire Municipal Council),

• cases of repeat elections,

• the verification of the election minutes,

• the vacancy of the position of Chair and the election of a new member,

• the impediments and incompatibilities of members of the Presidium.

In addition, it includes an Appendix with the applicable legislation, a Sample Invitation, and a Sample Election Protocol.

II] The No. 932/96599/29.12.2021 Circularconcerns the «Procedure for the formation and election of members of the Economic Committee and the Quality of Life Committee» in municipalities.

Includes:

• the process of determining the number of elected members from each political group,

• the preparation of ballot papers,

• the cross-breeding,

• the election of committee members,

• the replacement/resignation of members of the Economic Committee and the Quality of Life Committee,

• cases of repetition of the electoral process,

• the election of the Vice-Chair of the Economic Committee and the Quality of Life Committee,

• the control of the election procedures.

There is also an Appendix with the applicable legislation and the procedure for electing members of these Committees.
