The President of the Court of Appeal who honoured Justice and Kythera
Elesa Charamuntani has had a brilliant career in the Greek justice system, serving the rule of law with vigour and dedication. Her career has been steady and based on her scientific training. After serving as President of the Court of First Instance and subsequently as President of the Court of Appeal in Athens, in May 2011 the Supreme Judicial Council promoted her to the rank of President of the Court of Appeal.
This promotion was a milestone in her career, as she was appointed to the Athens Court of Appeal, assuming responsibility for serious cases at a time of intense social and economic challenges for the country.
As a judge, Elesa Charamuntani will be remembered for her insight and social sensitivity. A characteristic example is the historic decision 364/2011 of the Athens Court of Appeal, in which she was the rapporteur. With this decision, the Greek judiciary explicitly recognized for the first time that the generalized economic crisis is a reason to adjust rents, offering a legal way out and breathing space to thousands of professionals affected by the recession.
Her name was added to the list of worthy Kytherian judges who have honoured the judiciary, always maintaining the ethos and humility that characterised her personality.
