The Third Section of the Council of State has ruled that the ex post interventions by the former Minister of the Interior, Takis Theodorikakos, in the electoral implementation of the simple proportional representation system, as reflected in the 2019 local elections, to be unconstitutional. The Third Section of the Council of State delved into the substance of the application of Theodorikakos’s provisions, analyzing the presumption of jurisdiction with regard to the Municipal Council and the Finance Committee, as well as the Quality of Life Committee.
The Council of State’s decision fully vindicates our position regarding the manipulation of the municipal election results in Kythira as well.
The mayor’s excuses for his faction’s monopolization of all leadership positions, for the constant meetings conducted via email, and for reducing the City Council to a mere supporting role are crumbling like a house of cards.
Democracy requires meaningful dialogue, compromise, and acceptance of oversight. It requires genuine deliberation and respect for the will of the people.
