In a message posted on his personal Facebook page, Alexis Tsipras states: «Today is a day of remembrance and pride for every Greek woman and every Greek man, wherever they may be. The revolutionary and democratic legacy of the Revolution of 1821 is what has shaped our political institutions, our historical consciousness, and our collective memory. It is part of our collective identity and our guide for the battles of the future.
Two hundred years after the Revolution, our homeland is fighting yet another great battle—a battle for survival, to regain hope and a sense of purpose. History has taught us that great victories are the work of ordinary people—those who, through self-sacrifice and self-denial, serve a cause greater even than their own lives. These people—the heroes of our time—are the men and women fighting the battle in our hospitals today. The doctors and nurses who save lives. Those who keep a country standing in the face of this deadly virus, those who honor their oath to science and to their homeland. I send my solidarity and support to all healthcare workers, and I call on every citizen of this country to find the strength and courage to overcome these difficult times. We have a battle ahead of us that must be won. So that when tomorrow comes, it will find us all united and determined to build the Greece that future generations deserve.».

Statement by D. Koutsoubas on the anniversary of the 1821 Revolution
«The Revolution of 1821 teaches us that necessity always becomes “History,” that the “old” and “outdated,” no matter how unshakable it may seem, will be defeated, thanks to the struggle of the peoples, when they decide to take center stage in history,» said Dimitris Koutsoubas, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), in a statement marking the anniversary of the 1821 Revolution.
As he notes: «If the bourgeois liberation revolution of 1821 gave birth to the Greek bourgeois state, the Socialist Revolution of the 21st century will give birth to the new workers» state, which will put an end—once and for all, and irrevocably this time——to perpetuate the exploitation of man by man, and will satisfy the contemporary needs of the people, the aspirations of the working class, and the aspirations of our youth.”.
Message from Yanis Varoufakis on March 25
In his message marking the anniversary of March 25, G. Varoufakis, Secretary of MeRA 25, states that «every enslaved people must choose between adventure and subjugation.”.
The Greek rebels of 1821 were heroines and heroes because, fully aware of what they were doing, they rose up against the Ottoman Empire.
We established the first modern Greek state.
They chose adventure because they knew that the worst kind of adventure is choosing subjugation.
Today, 200 years later, we are celebrating that choice of theirs.
Velopoulos on March 25: Turkey Must Abandon Its Neo-Ottoman Fantasies
«On the occasion of today’s 200th anniversary of the 1821 Revolution and today’s parade, we have two messages and one observation.
The two messages concern enemies and friends.
The first message concerns our allies, who—just as they did then—continue to this day to behave toward Turkey in a particularly positive, even provocative, manner.
The second message concerns Turkey, which must abandon its neo-Ottoman fantasies, as it should not forget what happened in 1821, 200 years ago, and that with the Greeks united and the valiant Greek armed forces, the «desired» outcome can be achieved once again, and the Unredeemed Homelands— Asia Minor, Pontus, and Constantinople can be liberated just as our country was liberated in 1821.
This observation concerns the lack of people and the message of unity that the parade was supposed to convey, with the responsibility lying solely with the government, which did not allow Greek citizens to attend.
Happy holidays to the Greek people on this great Orthodox feast day and the 200th anniversary of the Greek War of Independence.
»Long live the nation!".
