By decision of the Mayor of Kythira, Efstratios Charchalakis (Decision No.: 03/2025), the new deputy mayors were appointed for the term from January 5, 2025, to January 5, 2026. The new structure includes significant changes to responsibilities, with reallocations, additions, and reorganizations aimed at improving the Municipality’s operations.
The remaining deputy mayors and their responsibilities
1. George Kominos, son of Constantine
Mr. Kominos retains his position as deputy mayor, and has been assigned responsibilities that include:
1. Stores, Businesses, Commerce, and the Primary Sector:
•Inspection of establishments of public health concern.
• Issuance of business operating licenses.
•Public health protection and health inspection.
•Management of farmers' markets and outdoor commercial activities.
•Advertising and management of outdoor advertising billboards.
•Issues related to rural development, livestock farming, and fisheries.
2. Social Policy and Welfare:
•Implementation of social policy programs.
•Management of a Community Food Pantry.
•Responsibility for stray animals.
•Collaboration with the Kythira Hospital on matters of mutual interest.
•Operations of the Health KEP.
3. Municipal Cemeteries:
•Operation and maintenance of municipal cemeteries.
•Collaboration with the Holy Metropolis regarding cemeteries that do not belong to the municipality.
4. Responsibility for performing civil marriages:
•Civil wedding ceremonies in the Municipal Unit of Kythira.
5. New responsibility:
•Installation of traffic signs and informational signs on the municipal road network.
2. Panagiotis Zantiotis, son of Georgios:
•It retains responsibility for water supply and sewerage, as well as for managing relations with Kythirians and Antikythirians living abroad.
•New assignment: Responsibility for the timely and accurate issuance and collection of water and sewer bills.
3. Dimitrios Kalligeros, son of Ioannis:
•He remains deputy mayor with responsibilities for financial management.
•New assignment: Education and schools, including collaboration with schools, infrastructure maintenance, and the operation of municipal playgrounds.
4. Ioannis Katsanevakis, son of Efstratios:
•He remains in charge of the Antikythira Island Municipal Unit.
•New responsibility: Civil Protection and management of issues related to sanitation and street lighting.

5. Stamatina Varda, daughter of Christos:
•Assumes newly established responsibilities in the areas of tourism policy, promotion, culture, and public relations.
•Specifically, it will focus on cultural events, the operation of the Municipal Library, and the planning of twinning events.
The Deputy Mayors Who Have Resigned
•General Georgios – Angelos of Ioannis: He is stepping down from the deputy mayor’s office. His responsibilities in the areas of financial management and tourism development are being transferred to Mr. Kalligeros and Ms. Varda.

•From Mr. Stratigos to Mr. Kalligeros: Financial management and oversight of the municipality’s revenues and expenditures.
•From Mr. Stratigos to Ms. Varda: Tourism policy and promotion, cultural events.
