Yesterday, Wednesday, November 9, 2022, the regular in-person meeting of the Finance Committee of the Municipality of Kythira was held in the «Mayor Artemios Kalligeros» Hall.
The committee, taking into account the increased migration flows to the islands of Kythira and Antikythira in recent months, decided to submit a funding request to the Ministry of Migration and Asylum’s «Solidarity Fund» for the following projects/procurements:
- «Supply of essentials for the reception and short stay of migrants in Kythera»
- «Supply of special equipment and rescue means»
- «Conversion of a municipal property into a Civil Protection and Short Term Management Centre for Migration Flows»
The total amount of funding requested by the Municipality of Kythira is €460,000 plus VAT%, or €570,400.
According to Article 196 of Law 4662/2020, local government agencies that bear the burden of migration flows are entitled to funding for infrastructure projects and other expenses from the «Solidarity Fund» of the Ministry of Migration and Asylum. The purpose of the «Solidarity Fund» is to finance projects, supplies, and studies to support local communities burdened by migration flows, as well as the operation of reception facilities for the accommodation of third-country nationals. Eligible recipients of funding include first- and second-level local government organizations (LGOs), their legal entities governed by public law, as well as legal entities governed by private law under Article 252 of the Code of Municipalities and Communities (Law 3463/2006, A’ 116), the majority of whose share capital is owned by local government bodies
