Shortly after Pelé’s death, the following medical statement was issued by the hospital where the Brazilian soccer legend had been receiving treatment for the past month or so: «Pelé died at 3:27 p.m. local time due to multiple organ failure caused by colon cancer.».

Pelé’s Instagram account posted a message as a legacy for future generations: «Inspiration and love marked the journey of King Pelé, who passed away peacefully today.”.

Throughout his life, Edson captivated the world with his athletic genius; stopped a war, carried out social projects around the world, and spread what he believed most strongly to be the cure for all our problems: love.

»His message today becomes a legacy for future generations. Love, love, and love, forever," was Pelé's moving message.

Pelé's daughter's touching «goodbye»

Throughout those difficult days, while the legendary Pelé was fighting for his life in the hospital, his daughter and his family never left his side for a moment.

Shortly after his death, on Thursday afternoon (12/29), his daughter Kelly Nascimento posted a very touching message on social media, saying goodbye to her father.

«Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you beyond measure. Rest in peace,» he wrote.
