The buzzing of the bees is coming…

By Panagiotis Koumoundouros

The mood in society is somber.

Inflation is putting pressure on incomes (the cost of basic necessities has risen to 135% since 2021).

Reduced agricultural subsidies are devastating the farming community; the "Hellenization" policies are wiping them out.

Private universities are undermining the quality of education at public universities.

Taxes are crushing the self-employed,

The surtax on public health care and medications is devastating for patients and retirees.

The injustice surrounding the Tembi crime is overwhelming…

I can hear something in the distance. A hum…

What is the government's response to the public regarding all of this?;

They shouldn't worry because the minimum wage will increase one month earlier than originally planned and will start with the number 8.

The revelation about the 800-euro minimum wage came from the prime minister himself—the very same person who, in the relatively distant past, (2011) had expressed the hope that he would never find himself having to live on 800 euros a month. Moreover, Mr. Mitsotakis seems to have developed a completely distorted view of the average Greek’s income. In his latest television interview, he went so far as to claim that workers’ wages have now stabilized and range between 1,000 and 3,000 euros!

A newly appointed teacher who is called upon to live on the islands to impart knowledge to our children—paying 500 euros a month in rent and living far from his family—is paid 734 euros net per month, 85 euros less than the wage of an unskilled laborer. A nurse earns 680 euros. A young doctor in the National Health System earns 1,200

Ignorance or simply a distortion of reality?;

At a time when the government is well aware that it is beginning to suffer the consequences of its choices, it now feels suffocated by the daily barrage of problems it has created.

The Maximos Mansion is now facing off against 41%, which is using it as a shield.

New Democracy voters are watching from a distance, numbed by the political incompetence of a government that believed it had been given a blank check, while the Church waits for the right moment to punish it—not because it voted in favor of same-sex marriage, but because it broke its promise to delay it.

The government is heading into the European elections feeling, for the first time, unstable and threatened by a social outcry that has not yet found its full expression.

He just hears the buzzing of the bees as they approach…
