The theater group “Myth” presents his masterpiece Jean Genet, *The Maids*«, in «@ Asomaton Art Space», on Monday, February 28, at 9:00 p.m.
This is a one-act play by the French writer Jean Genet, written in 1947. The author drew inspiration for the play from the notorious crime of the the Pappen brothers which took place in 1933, explores the relationships between the ruler and the ruled in people’s social roles.
The show's press release states:
«A timeless work. *The Maids*—the poor have no right to dream; they are condemned to live in misery and struggle just to survive.”.
The Lady—Lady Authority—imposes her will on everything with her sweetness and an air of power, since, in society, the powerful are those who have money.
The Slaves can find no other way to escape reality than by playing a game—theater. But they are quickly and abruptly brought back down to harsh reality, reaching a dead end.
