Teucrium short-leaved

Teucrium brevifolium Sch

Evergreen shrub native to the eastern Mediterranean. It belongs to the large family of the chelants. The species Teucrium brevifolium is included in the IUCN List of Threatened Species (1993, Greece) with the designation “rare”.

In Kythera we find it mainly in the west and south. It flowers from the end of December, and is a valuable food for bees at this time of year when flowering is low.
The flowers, with stamens protruding like small antennae, may be white or pink or pale purple
