289 Members voted in the secret ballot. There were 288 valid ballots and 1 invalid ballot paper. 187 Members voted «for», 85 «against» and 16 «present». 9 MPs from MERA 25 abstained from the vote.
According to the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament, the MP of SYRIZA N. Pappas, against whom the proposal for prosecution is directed, did not participate in the vote.
Southwest, the Movement for Change and Hellenic Solution had been “in favour” of the proposal for the establishment of a committee which will investigate any criminal responsibility of former minister N. Pappas. SYRIZA had said it would vote against the proposal, while the KKE said it would be present. . The secretary of MP25 G. Varoufakis had announced the abstention of the party from the vote and from the work of the Commission. .
According to the proposal of the Members of the Southwest, the Special Parliamentary Committee will conduct a preliminary examination (on the «Criminal Liability of Ministers») regarding the investigation of offences that may have been committed by the former Minister of State from 23-09-2015 to 05-11-2016 and then Digital Policy, Telecommunications and Information until 09-07-2019, Mr. 1) Bribery of a political official in a serial and consecutive manner (Art. 159 of the Criminal Code) and 2) Violation of Duty in a serial and consecutive manner (Art. 259 of the Criminal Code).
The President of the Parliament, Konstantinos Tasoulas, proposed and decided that the pre-inquiry committee should have 19 members, depending on the parliamentary strength of the parties, and the committee was given two months to complete its work and submit its report to the plenary.
