Regional meeting on bad weather

Γ. Patoulis: «The Region has been adequately prepared to effectively protect citizens and assist municipalities in addressing local needs»

Meeting of the Attica Regional Governor G. Patoulis with Mayors of Attica and Civil Protection officials of the Municipalities with the aim of better coordination of the first and second level of government to deal with the impending bad weather

Relevant announcements for the operation of the Schools on Sunday afternoon

The better coordination and cooperation of the Region with the Municipalities on the occasion of the impending bad weather and the information on the preventive measures taken by the Region, were at the heart of the meeting, through a teleconference held by the Regional Governor with the Mayors and Civil Protection officials of the Municipalities of Attica and the participation of thematic and spatial Deputy Regional Governors.

The meeting was held following the visit of the Regional Governor to the Control and Maintenance Directorate of the Region in Kapandriti, where he was informed in detail about the equipment that the Region has put at the disposal of citizens and local authorities in order to effectively manage the consequences of bad weather waves.

In detail, the preventive actions which the Region has taken were identified by the Deputy Head of Civil Protection B. Kokkalis and the Head of the Directorate of Metropolitan Infrastructure P. Karyotis.

The meeting was also attended, at the invitation of the Regional Governor, the Director  Research of the National Observatory of Athens Haris Kontoes as well as the Meteorologist-Scientific Associate of the Observatory K. Lagovardos, who informed about all the latest forecasts on how the two waves of bad weather will move in the coming days.

«Our goal is to have an effective cooperation and continuous coordination in order to protect and facilitate citizens wherever and whenever required,» the Regional Governor stressed during his initial introduction and added that in this context the Region and the entire Civil Protection mechanism will be in constant contact with the Municipalities during all critical days, in order to solve together directly and purposefully any local problems that arise. Mr Patoulis noted that the Region has taken all measures to keep open the main roads under its responsibility and asked the Mayors to focus on cleaning the municipal roads of their responsibility. However, he pointed out that the Region will assist the work of the municipalities beyond its responsibilities where required.

The Mayors and the representatives of the Municipalities thanked the Regional Governor for the preventive measures that have been taken and referred to the local needs that exist per region, citing their experience from previous bad weather that have affected Attica.

 

On Sunday the decisions on schools

 

On the issue of the operation of schools per region in Attica next week when the second wave of bad weather is expected, the Regional Governor pointed out that relevant announcements will be made on Sunday afternoon after a relevant meeting to be held with the village Deputy Governors and Mayors. At the meeting, he said, the data on the development of bad weather will be evaluated and relevant decisions will be taken.

 

In full readiness the mechanism of the Region of Attica

 

It is noted that the Region of Attica for the effective management of the impending bad weather and the protection of citizens,  has 80 machines, including snow ploughs, earth-moving machines and 2 rescue machines in case of need, while there is a full supply of salt which reaches 2.5 thousand tons. The quantities of salt have already been distributed to 10 selected points throughout Attica, in order to be used immediately and in a targeted manner, where required.

At the same time, it has placed at the disposal of citizens more than 250 staff, who will be on full alert 24 hours a day, in order to serve and protect them.
