The SYRIZA Prefectural Committee of Piraeus bids a sad farewell to our comrade Stathis Sklavenitis, who passed away so suddenly and unexpectedly at the age of 60.
Stathis had lost the mother of his children at an early age and struggled to raise his two daughters on his own. He was a true fighter and an exceptional person who gave his all to his family and the community.
He served the cause of education with integrity and dedication as a physics teacher in schools in Piraeus, leaving behind a remarkable legacy. His students used to say that he was a man of smiles and optimism, who treated everyone equally and cared for everyone.
He was always present at the struggles of the educational community and our people, remaining steadfast and unwavering in his convictions. His selfless dedication and fighting spirit were recognized by his colleagues, who honored him by electing him as a representative to the Piraeus Prefectural Council of Secondary Education (PYSDE) for many years; he had also served as a member of the Board of Directors and Secretary of the Piraeus Teachers’ Union (ELME), in collaboration with the United Educational Movements (SYNEC).
True to the principles and values of the Left, which he served by joining the ranks of the KNE and the KKE in his youth, and from the founding of the Coalition and subsequently of SYRIZA PS, he distinguished himself for his militancy in the collective struggles for democracy and social justice.
As a member of the Secretariat of the SYRIZA Prefectural Committee of Piraeus, Stathis played a significant role, among other things, in the field of the environment by organizing environmental initiatives throughout Piraeus.
The SYRIZA Prefectural Committee of Piraeus extends its heartfelt condolences to his daughters, Stefania and Nikoleta, his partner Fani, his brother Alexander, and his loved ones.
We’ll keep fighting for the things we dreamed of together, Stathis… and you’ll always be there!
