In a statement, SYRIZA - P.S. calls on the «late reformers of the Mitsotakis government, to clean up their own backyard first, before they utter the next «crowns about the cleansing of sport».

«Yesterday's (19/01/21) announcement by the press office of the NW on the very serious matter sexual abuse, denounced by Olympic champion and shocked our society, it proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Minister of Sport is a liar and unscrupulous.
It is the duty of all of us to investigate the case thoroughly, to encourage the closed mouths to break their silence, to build an institutional framework that will prevent similar behaviour and punish offenders severely.
The above, however, does not seem to be in Mr.Avgenakis' ambitions.
Regarding the crowns about the cleansing of sport, which supposedly started in 2019 by the late «reformers» of the Southwest and especially Mr.Avgenakis, rather have a short and selective memory.
When SYRIZA passed the law. 4603/19 which talked about democracy, terms on the Boards, respect for rights, simple proportional representation and reduced cross-election, leaf quota, reports and objective evaluation, rational planning for the development of sport and not clientelism, the Southwest voted against it and was on the side of the administrations it now denounces.
The first action Mr.Avgenakis took when he took office in 2019 was, the abolition of the gender quota, the key institutional tool for women's participation in decision-making to break the conservative stereotypes that their own governments established years ago.
Now they are talking about catharsis and wagging their finger, when in reality they are only interested in absolute control of sports administrations. Life proves emphatically that cleansing in the sports federations primarily means cleansing in the «house» of the SW.
In any case, the Deputy Minister responsible for sport should stop devaluing sport morally, with his choices. He should open the doors of sport after the disastrous lockout it suffered and take steps to make it a safe activity for young people.
