With the start of the new school year in Kythira, problems with organizing student transportation have come to the forefront, creating uncertainty within the educational community. The delay in finding solutions by the Attica Regional Authority has led parents to temporarily take on the responsibility of transporting their children. In a statement, SYRIZA-PS Kythira criticizes the inefficiency of the «bureaucratic state» and calls for immediate action to address the key problems facing the school community, such as the construction of new schools and filling vacancies in the teaching staff.

«Immediate Solutions to the Problems Facing the School Community»
Once again, the «well-organized state» has turned into a «let’s just wing it» situation… The school year in Kythira (as elsewhere) began without the issue of student transportation having been resolved. Parents and friends will be providing transportation until the government and the Attica Regional Authority resolve the issue with «urgent» measures!
From an announcement by Mayor Charhalakis, we learned that «legislation is expected to be passed on an urgent basis either today or tomorrow, so that, following an emergency meeting of the regional committee, the contracts can be awarded to the lowest bidders»…
-Someone with a mean streak might say, «Let the kids take public transportation for a few days»…
-Someone else might point out that the government and the Attica Region were busy addressing the issues surrounding the construction of new schools in Kythira, filling vacancies in the teaching staff, or even finding housing for teachers. All of this was done through «emergency measures.».
Unfortunately, the new regional governor, Mr. Hardalias, was unable to resolve the specific issue of student transportation in a timely manner.
SYRIZA-PS Kythira calls on the government and the regional authorities to provide an immediate solution to all the problems facing the school community in Kythira. Student transportation, the construction of new school buildings, filling vacancies in the teaching staff, and taking measures to ensure that teachers have access to affordable and decent housing (an issue that also affects other categories of public servants in Kythira) must be their top priority.
SYRIZA-PS Kythira will closely monitor the issue and will revisit it if no solutions have been provided.
