Of great concern in recent hours are the constant and instantaneous power cuts in various areas of Kythera. Residents speak of repeated «chuffs» in the current, i.e. sudden drops and resets of voltage, which may last a few seconds, but are particularly dangerous.
The problem is located in the network of HEDNO and does not concern an isolated failure, but a constant instability in the supply, repeated during the day, without warning.
The risks for consumers
Momentary interruptions are often more dangerous than a normal blackout. They can cause:
- damage to electrical and electronic appliances (refrigerators, televisions, computers, routers),
- damage to water pumps, water heaters and air conditioners,
- data loss on professional equipment,
- damage to photovoltaic systems and inverters,
- serious problems in catering, tourism and health businesses.
Particularly exposed are elderly people, families with medical devices in the home, and small businesses that not having the capability of back-up voltage protection.
Outages occur without warning, leaving consumers counting damages and wondering who will take responsibility.
On an island that relies on tourism, digital services and basic energy security, such phenomena cannot be considered «normality».
When in a European country, in 2026, an entire island experiences daily instability in electricity, without explanation and without prevention, the question is not technical.
It is deeply political.
For which state are we talking about?;
For a state that protects its citizens or for a state that lets them burn appliances, pay damages and get used to the unacceptable?;
