The Tourist Accommodation Association of the Municipality of Kythera - Antikythera “CeriGo” expresses its strong reaction to the exclusion from the organization of the International Conference on «Tourism Development and Infrastructure Capacity», which is to be held in Kythera on 16 and 17 October 2025.
The Association's press release speaks of «wrong behavior» and «scandalous indifference» on the part of the Municipal Authority, while stressing that the failure to cooperate with the only active tourist organization of the island proves «divisive and toxic mentality».
Despite their reservations and criticism, the representatives of “CeriGo” declare that they will attend the Conference, in order to present their proposals for a soft and sustainable tourism development in Kythera. The following is the press release:

Unfortunately, with wrong behaviour, inversely proportional to the requirements of the times and the expected results, once again the Municipal Authority of Kythera scandalously and completely ignored the cooperation with the only active Tourism Association of the island “CeriGo” - Association of Tourist Accommodation of the Municipality of Kythera - Antikythera, proving in practice that it is inferior to the circumstances and captive to petty, divisive and toxic behaviour.
As can be seen from the communication storm of self-admiration of the last few days, we are referring to the postponed - why? - and a decade late International Conference on Tourism Development and Infrastructure Capacity, which will be held on our island on 16 and 17 October 2025.
Hundreds of conferences with the same or similar content have taken place and continue to take place throughout Greece and internationally, with the first co-organizers everywhere and without exception the local bodies representing the people and businesses of tourism. The only exception, once again, is the Municipality of Kythera. For us, without us...
It seems that there was not even one representative of our Association in the Scientific and Organizing Committee of the Conference - perhaps the only one who could present not theoretical generalities, but accurate and real data on all the parameters of tourism in Kythera.
Nevertheless, and despite our certainty to the contrary, we wish the success of the objectives of the Conference, we express our appreciation and thanks to the participants and guests, and we assure all Kytherians that we eagerly await the implementation of the results of the Conference, in order to have a better future, to minimize the problems of tourism development, with balance and assurance of quality of life for all and in all sectors.
Finally, we want to express our unanimous, agonistic will to attend the Conference - even though we were not invited - and to present our proposals for the preservation of the conditions of soft and sustainable development, not only in tourism, but in all human activities in Kythera.
