The call for researchers Istorima for the Eastern Attica, Piraeus, the Argosaronic Islands, Kythira, the Western Sector of Athens, Western Attica, and the Central/Southern/Northern Sector of Athens has opened and invites young people aged 18-35 who love their homeland and its people to record its stories.
The Istorima is a non-profit organization whose goal is to create an Archive of Oral Histories of Greece by offering nine months of paid employment to hundreds of young people throughout the country. Over the next four years, Istorima will train 1,500 researchers from every prefecture in the country to record oral histories from their place of origin. So far, 371 researchers from 23 different prefectures have collected stories from their local areas.
Researchers at Istorima They collect narratives and stories, both old and contemporary, from various historical periods and covering a wide range of topics. They encourage their family members, friends, and community residents to share their own narratives so that their stories are not lost. The stories will be preserved in a publicly accessible archive, and selected stories will be posted on the website. www.istorima.org.
The founders of the project are the historian and Provost of New York University (NYU) Katherine Fleming and the journalist Sophia Papaioannou. Istorima is made possible by a founding donation from Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) and is part of the ISN initiative for Restarting and Empowering Young People.
