The lyophyte Lesbos is going to welcome international olive oil competition ATHENA, succeeding Athens, Messinia, Delphi and Nafplio. The competition will take place on 10, 11 and 12 May, on an island with a long tradition in olive growing, representing 20% of domestic olive oil production, with over 11 million trees. Standing out are the local varieties Kolovi and Adramytini, which give us excellent quality oils.
In this, the 6th year of the competition organized by Vinetum, the 25 tasters of the jury - from Argentina, Brazil, Croatia, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Israel, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia, Italy, Israel, Morocco, Portugal, Tunisia, Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States and Turkey - are expected to taste over 500 samples of extra virgin olive oil from all over the world. The evaluations will take place in the central hall of the Industrial Olive Oil Museum, in Agia Paraskevi, in the Municipality of West Lesvos.
The Greek extra virgin olive oils, which include among the world's top in the world, they have a lot of «dopey». The competition, which is organized every year in a different olive-growing region of Greece, apart from highlighting newcomers to olive production in countries or regions, as well as rare olive varieties, promotes the our country's faunal culture.
