Ε. Stamatis: «The Kythera Tourism Committee and the Triodion»

The «bad texts» of the newly created Kythera Tourism Committee, cautions the member of the committee in his intervention, Epaminondas Stamatis. In the statement issued, Mr Stamatis, who is part of the municipal faction of the major opposition, calls the committee «decorative periclase» and «laundry», accusing it of having shouldered a «light role», which was reserved for those who set it up. Either out of necessity or for reasons of «prestige», as he says.

The text refers to the under-functioning of the committee, which has only met once in the last year and the absence of a creative action plan for tourism on the island, and instead accuses the chairman of the committee of being the mayor's ’lapdog«.

Finally, it calls for an extraordinary meeting of the Tourism Committee, in order for it to take an official position on the «unprecedented action of leasing the Cave of Chitra», as it states.

The Kythera Tourism Committee and the Triode

Once again in Kythera, the New Act of the Theatre of the Absurd is performed.

The Kythera Tourism Committee, absolutely certifies the «light» role reserved for it, by those who, out of necessity and «prestige», set it up. «A »decorative periculum' and sometimes a washing machine.

To be perfectly clear, I'll just summarise.

The last Municipal Elections were held in May 2019. One year later, on 6-5-2020, by decision 43/20 of the Municipal Council, the Tourism Committee was formed. Of course, not to be discouraged, the next item on the Board's agenda was «Approval of the Tourism Promotion Program for the year 2020». Finished business that is, some trash was left for Tourism. Pots!!!

Two months later, and after what was essentially a very difficult summer, on 6-7-2020 the first, the one and only meeting of the Tourism Committee took place. Since then, total silence, as if we have everything resolved. Eight months later (!), just a few days ago, the President came forward, not to take responsibility for the «deadly» inaction, or even to download a dynamic, creative Action Plan that would rally all the Island's forces for Tourism, in the face of the extraordinary and unprecedented conditions that we are facing this summer, but to praise the Mayor!

Okay. Is the Tourist Board going to do anything or can't they? Because if it can't, there is the path of dignity and resignation.

However, my intervention today has a different purpose. In the face of the unprecedented action of leasing the Cave of Chitra, I call on the President to call an extraordinary meeting of the Tourism Committee (by teleconference, to stop the excuses) in order to take a position on the matter. Otherwise, the members of the Committee must take a public position and vote on the matter before the people of Kythera.
