Today the trilateral meeting between Greece - Cyprus - Jordan

Today, the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, will take part in the trilateral meeting Summit Greece - Cyprus - Jordan, organised at the Zappeion Palace with the participation of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Anastasiades and the King of Jordan, Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein (Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein).

The Summit will be the third in a row. The first was held in Nicosia on 16 January 2018 and the second on Amman on 14 April 2019. The third session was originally scheduled to take place in Athens on 7 April 2020, but was postponed due to the pandemic.

Government sources say that the cooperation schemes between countries in the region (and more broadly), in which Greece participates, are evidence of a agreement on regional challenges and how to address them, with respect for international law and good neighbourly relations.

They add that these schemes act as a counterbalance to Ankara's aggressive behaviour and at the same time operate inclusively against any countries that subscribe to this approach.

The same sources note that in the post-Covid era, we are expected to face a new reality and that the emerging context requires, among other things, effective transnational cooperation, primarily in key (and at the same time vulnerable to «shocks») sectors such as tourism, trade and transport. The Summit also brings to the fore the need for scientific cooperation and the promotion of research to protect public health. The objective of exiting the current crisis can be served in the most effective and beneficial way, through multilateral cooperation schemes, such as the one between our country and Cyprus and Jordan, which did not suspend its actions throughout the pandemic.

With regard to the areas of economic and technical cooperation at trilateral level, the Summit is expected to reaffirm the will of all three sides to deepen it, which is supported by the establishment of working groups that will elaborate specific proposals at technical level.

Finally, the aim is to exchange views on the addressing the migration issue, with the aim of continuing and strengthening the existing cooperation.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister met with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, at the Maximos Mansion.

The trilateral meeting will take place today at 12:00 at Zappeion Hall. Afterwards, Kyriakos Mitsotakis will have lunch with the President of the Republic of Cyprus and the King of Jordan, while in the afternoon of the same day the Prime Minister will meet with the King of Jordan at the Maximou Mansion.
