With her prime minister Libya Prime Minister held talks with Abdou Hamid Dbeiba Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Mr. Mitsotakis congratulated Libya’s interim prime minister on the formation of the new government and accepted Mr. Dbeiba’s invitation to visit Libya in the near future.
“The discussion took place in a warm atmosphere that reaffirms the historic ties between the two countries,” according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
It should be noted that Dmeiba has been tasked with leading the country to elections at the end of the year, following the collapse of the Sarraj regime. In fact, he was Libya’s ambassador to Greece and was expelled from our country in late 2019 following the signing of the Turkish-Libyan memorandum.
Greece wants to be “present” in Libya the day after Sarraj’s successor is named—Sarraj, it should be recalled, was the one who had signed the an illegal memorandum of understanding with Turkey. The goal is to drive a “wedge” between Turkey and Libya.
Consequently, steps had been taken to reestablish diplomatic channels with Libya by reopening the Greek embassy in Tripoli and opening a Greek consulate general in Benghazi.
