The search for missing persons continues under adverse weather conditions, with northerly winds of over 6 Beaufort, in the sea area 38 nautical miles south of Rhodes, after the sinking of a boat carrying an unknown -so far- number of migrants yesterday.
So far 29 people, all men, have been recovered unharmed. Two were transported by a Super Puma helicopter to Karpathos and 27 by a Greek-owned tanker to Kos. The migrants reported that there were about 60 to 80 people in total on board.
One navy ship and three patrol vessels are participating in the search in the sea area. The two Turkish patrol boats that arrived yesterday in the vicinity of the incident have left the scene, while according to reports, the migrants on board the boat had left Antalya, Turkey, two days ago for Italy.
Of those rescued, a small number of migrants were wearing life jackets.
