After 35 months of silence, the Water Square Wednesday night (June 8) came alive once again as Release Athens 2022 kicked off, welcoming the dark and atmospheric Bauhaus.
The four original members of the legendary band—Peter Murphy, Daniel Ash, Kevin Haskins, and David J—, They took the stage at Release around 11:30 p.m. —It was preceded by performances by the popular Belgian band Deus and the iconic Jesus and Mary Chain—but unfortunately, the live show didn't go smoothly.
There were far too many sound problems; Peter Murphy’s voice kept cutting out—which was very annoying—and this ended up really frustrating the singer himself. Despite his repeated comments to the sound engineer that he couldn’t hear well and that the sound was cutting out, the problem was never fixed.
So, shortly after midnight, while he was singing his excellent cover of David Bowie's "Ziggy Stardust," before he had even finished the song, She threw the microphone down and walked off the stage, saying “good night” to the audience and “this is your fault” to the band’s sound engineer”.
The guitarist finished the song and Then the lights came on, and the audience left, stunned and speechless from this unfortunate turn of events that evening.
