One of the most difficult nights Kythera is experiencing, as the great fire remains out of control and burning out of control on many fronts. On 4:00 in the morning, the flames raged west of the Fractions, moving southwards towards stream of Kyra-Rini and the Marathea. At the same time, the front burning west of the Driona climbed the ridge in the direction of the settlement, which evacuated as a precaution.
The night evolves dramatically difficult for residents and ground forces operating with limited resources, battling the flames in conditions of smoky and visibility. All now anxiously awaiting the first light of day and the arrival of the aerial fire-fighting equipment, hoping to limit the destruction and save what can still be saved.
Meanwhile, earlier, on 2:40 in the morning, they were hit the bells in the churches of the village of Fratsia, so that the residents can wake up and be ready in case of an emergency. The efforts of firefighters, volunteers and locals are superhuman, as everyone fights the battle in the night, doing everything they can to keep the fire away from the village.
Agonising appeals from citizens: «Send air assets at first light before it's too late»
Throughout the night, the Kythera.News accept continuous appeals from citizens of the island, who are desperately seeking the immediate dispatch of airborne fire-fighting assets at first light. Concern is widespread, as the fire is out of control and, based on meteorological data, the winds are blowing from west-southwest to east, which raises serious fears of an extension of the fire front to eastern Kythera, where there are densely populated areas and critical infrastructure. Citizens are calling for no more precious time to be lost and for every available air force to be mobilised at first light.
