The Municipality of Kythira extends its heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, residents, and visitors who have been actively involved in recent days in civil protection efforts and in the preventive monitoring and surveillance of the island’s forested areas.
The 24-hour patrols continue without any letup, as the wildfire season is in full swing and August marks its peak. In this context, anyone wishing to participate in VOLUNTEER PATROLS should contact the Deputy Mayor for Civil Protection, Mr. Ioannis Katsanevakis, at 6986107452.
In addition, we would like to remind you that:
1. Citizens are PROHIBITED from entering or remaining in forest areas until August 20. Violators will be subject to fines and other penalties.
2. Any outdoor use of fire is PROHIBITED (electric welding, barbecues, lighting traditional wood-fired ovens, smoking bees, burning grass and branches, lighting candles in cemeteries and at roadside/outdoor shrines, etc.) is prohibited.
3. Local Chairs and local volunteer groups must be on immediate standby.
4. Private tanker trucks must be full, and private construction equipment must be on immediate standby.
5. The Municipality of Kythira has published fire safety guidelines at the following link:
