The possibility is open to give an extension and not to apply from 16 January the imposition of the fine for citizens over 60 years of age who remain unvaccinated, left the Deputy Minister of Interior, Stelios Petsas.
As he told SKAI, «if we see that people in this age group are rushing to get vaccinated, we might give more time».
He explained that all the measures will be seen by the experts this week, as they expire on Sunday.
The Rev. Minister estimated that the first quarter of the year will be the most difficult.
Citing the most recent figures, he said that «we are on the right track as there are no Omicron mutation patients in ICUs».
Petsas also stressed that the involvement of local government in testing is planned to reduce queues.
He said the issue was discussed in a communication with the leadership of the Ministry of Health today.
He said the government has chosen open schools but with protection and added that the opposition's attempt is to say that something different should have been done to the schools.
If the opposition wants to close schools to say so, Petsas said.
