With a combination of spring coolness, local rains and a temporary drop in temperature, this year's Easter days will pass. The weather is expected to be unsettled. However, the scene improves noticeably on Easter Sunday, with the mercury rising again.
According to the latest forecast data of meteorologist Thodoris Kolydas and the National Observatory of Athens (meteo.gr), the weather development is divided into distinct phases.
The Triple Phase of the Holidays
The analysis of 100 forecast scenarios shows three stages for the weather over Attica (at an altitude of 1,500 metres) from 7 to 17 April:
- Phase 1 (M. Tuesday - M. Wednesday): We have already experienced temperatures higher than normal for the season. The peak occurred on Good Wednesday.
- Phase 2 (Maundy Thursday - Easter Sunday): A significant drop in temperature due to the prevalence of colder gas masses. The coldest days will be Good Friday and Good Saturday. A gradual rise is expected from Easter Sunday.
- Phase 3 (Easter Monday - Thursday 16 April): Despite the relative forecast uncertainty, a new rise in temperature is expected. Temperatures will approach or exceed normal levels, signalling a return to spring.
Detailed Forecast By Day
- Maundy Thursday: Instability will be more noticeable. Showers are expected in Macedonia, Thrace, Thessaly, eastern Sterea and Evia. In the northern mountains there will be some snowfall.
- Good Friday: The phenomena are limited. Partly cloudy with occasional local rain. Areas to be affected: eastern Macedonia, Thrace, northern Aegean islands, Sporades, eastern Sterea, Evia, eastern Peloponnese and Crete. A little snow is expected in the northern mountains.
- Temperatures: Northeast: 13-14°C. Rest of the country: 15-18°C. Central, southern mainland, Crete, Dodecanese: 19-21°C. North winds 3-5 (locally 6) Beaufort.
- Holy Saturday (Resurrection): In the eastern mainland, clouds are expected with occasional local showers. In the rest of the country, clouds will gradually increase. In the afternoon and in the afternoon local rainfall is expected in the mainland (mainly in the mountains) and in Crete. From the afternoon, the phenomena will be limited to the northeast. Some snow in the mountains of eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Temperature without significant change.
- Easter Sunday: The weather is “sweetening”. A few clouds and occasional light showers in the morning in the eastern mainland and the northern Aegean. Local rain in the afternoon and afternoon in the rest of the continent (mainly in the mountains) and Crete.
- Winds: In the west, east-southeast 3-5 Beaufort (in the Ionian Sea gradually 6-7 Beaufort). In the east, north 3-5 Beaufort. Temperature slightly rising.
- Easter Monday: Increasing clouds from the west. Light local showers on the mainland and, in the evening, in the southern Aegean. Strong winds in the Ionian Sea (7-8 Beaufort). Temperatures will rise further.
