Panagiotis Gianniotis, the tourism promotion officer for the Municipality of Kythira, spoke on the ERT3 program “Ora Therini.”.
Mr. Gianniotis said he was thrilled with this year’s tourist traffic, which is on par with 2019 levels, while also noting that, in a conversation with the president of the island’s Association of Tourist Accommodations (ed. Vanessa Raikou), she had informed him that the level of reservations for the month of September is at very satisfactory levels. He also emphasized that this particular month has been steadily gaining strength in terms of arrivals in recent years.
In response to a question about the origin of tourists who choose the island for their vacations, Mr. Gianniotis said that Kythira attracts primarily Greek visitors, accounting for 70% of the total, many of whom are from Northern Greece. As for foreign visitors, he noted that their main source of origin is Northern Europe.
Next, Mr. Gianniotis highlighted the attractions (beaches, sights) and activities that visitors to Tsirigo can enjoy, emphasizing alternative forms of tourism (a network of marked trails, including the first Via Ferrata climbing trail on a Greek island, scuba diving, and religious tourism). He made special mention of local products, such as olive oil, honey, and olive oil cookies, and he did not fail to mention the festivals of Kythira, which attract a large number of visitors on their own.
