The Kythira Brotherhood of Piraeus–Athens, as part of its cultural events and in keeping with the spirit of the times and pandemic restrictions, organized an online tour of the Kotsanas Museum of Ancient Greek Technology on Sunday, March 28, 2021. With the help of museum docents, we explored ancient Greek inventions together.
Such were the ancient Greek theater, the oinochoe, the siphonia, and the beacons—that is, the fires lit on hilltops in times of war and peace, serving as signals for communication between distant cities.
Other topics of interest, such as Archimedes’ hydraulic screw for pumping water, the complex puzzle of the ancient Greeks, and the explanation of the Antikythera mechanism all captured the participants’ interest. Permanent residents of Kythira and students were among the participants.
The board of directors of the Kythira Brotherhood of Piraeus-Athens continues its work amid the extremely difficult circumstances we are currently facing.
