With dynamic intervention, the municipal faction «All Together, Kythira-Antikythira» clearly states its stance against the planned industrial wind turbine projects in areas of high environmental and cultural importance of the island.
Specifically, the faction fully supported the decision of the Municipality of Kythera for active participation in the public consultation of the Environmental Impact Studies (EIA) and the Special Ecological Assessments (SEA), concerning a project of power 131.42 MW in three sensitive locations: Krabunolakkos - Finikinis, Cordelia and Xerocampia. At a time when responsibility towards the environment and legality cannot be a pretext, our party proudly supported the proposal submitted by the Municipality of Kythera, in order to participate actively and with strong legal documentation in the public consultation on the Environmental Impact Studies (EIA) and the Special Ecological Assessments (SEA) concerning the planned wind farms in the «backbone» of the island.
The 131.42 MW project, located in three sites of high ecological and cultural value (Kavounolakkos - Finikies, Cordelides, Xerocampia), belongs to category A1, i.e. a project that is likely to have a very significant impact on the environment. It cannot, therefore, be met with indifference or casual responses.
As a first step, it was decided to draft a documented legal document, with a specialized rebuttal of the RIAs/EEAs, its official posting in the Electronic Environmental Register and the cooperation with a legal team specialized in European and environmental law.
