In a provocative statement, the MP of the New Democracy, Vassilis Economou, made a provocative statement to ERT's camera. At a time when citizens are groaning under the burden of exorbitant and without any logic electricity bills, Mr. Economou stated in a morning broadcast of the state channel that «in this country everyone must understand that the chabas is dead» and that some people use the high cost of electricity as an excuse because they have the mentality of «I do not pay».
Despite the reactions of his interlocutors (the parliamentary representative of SYRIZA, Thanasis Theocharopoulos, and the MP of Hellenic Solution, Konstantinos Hitas) and the hosts of the show (Dimitris Kottaridis and Yannis Pitaras), who explained to him that households, pensioners and small and medium-sized enterprises can no longer pay, while up to now they have been doing so, the ruling party MP insisted.
Here we note that already, the electricity providers have given orders to cut off about 26,500 power supplies, while there have already been interruptions to about 6,000 consumers, according to the president of the Union of Public Power Technicians, Kostas Maniatis. As he told the same show, the PPP is constantly receiving orders to cut off supplies for unpaid bills.
