Adding fuel to the now burning debate throws the head of the Major Opposition of the Municipality of Kythera Nikos Magoulas, with an aggressive statement in which it says that the the project of relocating the KEP cost about €100.000, while for a case of opacity and mismanagement for which he has already challenged the Mayor, stating that «these could very easily to be determined by a prosecutor's investigation.». Finally, Mr. Magoulas engages in a a personal attack on the Mayor's person on the basis of the latter's phrase about «political survival board and political narrative». Here is the statement:
ISSUE : Statement of the Head of the Municipal Party «People First» on the Public Position of the 4th of November 2022 of the Mayor of Kythera Mr. Efstratios Harhalakis regarding the KEP Potamos.
The relocation of the KEP of Potamos to the renovated Municipal Hall is undoubtedly a positive development for the village of Potamos, but also for the entire island of Kythera. In an elegant and more spacious space than the previous one, citizens will be able to be served with greater comfort. With the simultaneous exhibition of the Functional Model of the Antikythera Mechanism, the area gains additional museum interest and will certainly become a magnet for visitors to our island.
The above, however, has nothing to do with whether or not there was mismanagement in the financial figures of the renovation, whether there were overcharges, whether the same work was costed twice and three times as various funding related to the same or neighbouring areas in the same building, or whether Mr. Harhalakis' pre-election bills were paid off. These could very easily be established by a public prosecutor's investigation. This project cost about 100 thousand euros and the world is watching and judging. Mr. Harhalakis has no idea from construction, so any discussion of construction costs falls on deaf ears. The essential role of the Opposition is to control the municipal government of the day and like it or not of Mr. Harhalakis we as a faction will continue to do this.
Who is misleading public opinion and with what motives has been understood by everyone on our islands. I would like to remind Mr. Harhalakis that I I have professional status and I serve the profession I studied with great pleasure. Another is the one who has been living in Kythera for the last few years, occupying public positions with great agony. I would like to remind Mr. Harhalakis that I grew up in Kythera, went to school in Kythera and returned permanently to Kythera where I work and live with my family. I am not here «passing through» to build a political career. I would like to remind Mr Harhalakis that I and my family have invested all our money in Kythera and it is only logical that I am interested in the good of this place. It is another person who has not invested a single euro in this place. And finally, I would like to remind Mr Harhalakis that, unlike him, I have no political ambition, so it is at least funny that he should refer to me as «a political lifeline and a political narrative».
