Internationally renowned Greek chef Nicholas Poulmentis is preparing to open his first Greek restaurant in New York, bringing flavors, memories, and aesthetics inspired by Kythira to the heart of Manhattan. The new restaurant will be called «Kythira» and is expected to launch in the fall at 32 Grand Street, in the Soho area.
The space covers approximately 3,500 square feet, and the chef says his goal is to preserve the authentic character of the old building and transform it into a warm Greek-Mediterranean space. In an interview with the American media outlet What Now, Poulemontis emphasized that he wants the restaurant to exude a rustic aesthetic and hospitality, faithful to its roots.
With more than 30 years of experience in gastronomy, Nikos Poulmentis has become known for his appearances on Food Network, on shows such as Beat Bobby Flay and Chopped, He has even cooked for former US President Barack Obama in the past. His relationship with cooking began at a very young age, alongside his father, whom he describes as his first and most important teacher.
During his professional career, he has worked in well-known Greek restaurants in New York, such as Akrotiri, Oli.Vine, Cellar Tavern and Noema. Kythira will be his first restaurant as owner and chef.
The menu of the new fine dining space will emphasize seafood, while also including meat dishes and options for vegetarians and vegans. Among the offerings are expected to be oysters, stuffed squid, gnocchi with goat cheese, spinach pie, lamb chops, and vegetarian moussaka. The restaurant is expected to be open from 8 a.m. to midnight, with extended hours until 1 a.m. on weekends.
Through social media, the expatriate chef is already sharing images of the space's transformation, expressing his eagerness for the opening and emphasizing that his goal is to offer a complete experience of Greek hospitality, with love, quality, and authenticity.
