A new wave of bad weather from today during the evening hours until Wednesday, with showers and locally strong thunderstorms mainly tomorrow, but also gusty winds, will cause a deep barometric low from northwestern Europe, moving southeast.
Specifically, according to the available forecast data of meteo.gr/National Observatory of Athens, for today a few clouds are forecasted, gradually increasing in the west and south with local showers after afternoon in the western Peloponnese, western Central Greece, Ionian and Epirus. Gradually and during the night and until the early morning hours tomorrow the phenomena will intensify and extend further east.
During tomorrow, showers and local thunderstorms will occur in most of the country. Showers and thunderstorms will be intense in places and significant rainfall is expected mainly in western Central Greece, western and southern Peloponnese, Epirus, the Ionian Islands and Thrace.
On Wednesday, the phenomena will gradually decrease in the eastern Aegean, where rains and locally heavy thunderstorms are expected until midday, while local showers are expected in the southern and western Peloponnese, western Central Greece, Epirus, Cyclades and in the early morning hours in eastern Central Greece and southern Evia.
According to the classification of the rainfall episode (Regional Precipitation Index), which is applied by the Meteo unit of the National Observatory of Athens, the rainfall episode for tomorrow, when the most intense phenomena are expected, is classified in Category 4 (Very Significant).
At the same time, tomorrow a significant strengthening of south-southwest winds with intensities up to 8 Beaufort is expected in the Aegean Sea. Gradual weakening of winds is expected from the early hours of Wednesday morning.
