The eleven films coming to cinemas from Thursday 8 December.

Quiet 6-9

A man and a woman, Ares and Anna, meet by chance in a small, seaside town. They are the only strangers in a town filled with antennas broadcasting the voices of the Disappeared, its inhabitants who have suddenly and inexplicably disappeared. As we follow daily life and the strange tactics devised by those left behind to communicate with the Disappeared, Anna and Ares fall in love. A few days later, Anna disappears.

We first met director Christos Passalis as an actor in Giorgos Lanthimos' Fang, and as director and writer in the film The City and the City, which he co-wrote with Sulla Tzoumerka.

Quiet 6-9, which had its world premiere at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival (Official Competition Section), won the Best Film Award at the Linea d'Ombra Festival (Italy), and had its Greek premiere at the 63rd Thessaloniki Film Festival (International Competition Section, Official First of the Greek Film Festival).

«Silence 6-9 describes a world in between reality and dreams, a world that is silent in order to be able to communicate with those who are lost and impossible to forget. A film about the impossibility or the impossibility of saying goodbye», as Christos Passalis says in his note. Starring Angeliki Papoulia, Christos Passalis, Sofia Kokkali, Maria Skoula and Marissa Triantafyllidou.

Exclusively in Astor (Athens) and Pavlos Zanna (Thessaloniki).

White Noise

A modern American family's attempts to cope with the mundane conflicts of everyday life, while struggling with the mysteries of love, death and the possibility of happiness in an uncertain world.

«White Noise confronts the idea of death - the only way to truly live your life is to acknowledge that it's about to end,“ says director Noah Baubach. ”My father gave me the book when I was in college. He was a writer and he loved movies, so the book was a synthesis of what interested him. He passed away in 2019 and when I re-read the book that year, I was terribly influenced by it. Don Delillo [the book's author] shows us all the strategies and routines we've discovered to accept the unthinkable idea of death, and then he unravels those defences [...] I had the feeling that whatever was happening in the country, the book would feel like it was written for that particular moment. If I had reread it after 9/11, during the early days of the internet or when Trump was elected-somehow it has things to say about this country that have always been true.».

Played by Adam Driver, Greta Gerwick, Don Cheadle.

The five devils

Vicki, a strange and lonely little girl, has a magical gift: she can reproduce any fragrance she likes, which she then collects in a series of meticulously labelled jars. Shot on film, Lea Michioux's mysterious new film, following her acclaimed directorial debut with Ava, which stole the show at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight, looks at motherhood and repressed emotions against the backdrop of a fairytale mountain village. Starring Adele Exarchopoulos (The Life of Adele) and a disarming first-time young girl (Sally Drame), The Five Devils boldly straddles different cinematic genres to reveal the secrets of a different family.
