Invitation to the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to speak at a joint meeting of the Congress, addressed by the President of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi. The Prime Minister's speech, which will take place as part of his official visit to Washington, will take place on Tuesday, 17 May 2022.

«Dear Prime Minister

On behalf of the bipartisan leadership of the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate, it is my honor to invite you to address a joint session of both houses of Congress, to be convened in the House of Representatives Chamber on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m.

It is our great privilege to host you for this belated celebration of the 200th anniversary of Greek independence, which unfortunately we were forced to delay last year due to the pandemic.

The unshakeable bond between the United States and Greece is firmly rooted in our shared history and values. In drafting our Constitution, our Founders built on the ancient Greek ideals of freedom and democracy. Decades later, the Greek Republic was born from the same yearning for independence and self-determination that sparked the American Revolution. Today, more than two centuries later, our nations are key allies on the world stage: promoting our mutual security and economic interests, as well as our shared democratic values in the world.

As our world faces a pivotal moment in the struggle between the forces of democracy and autocracy, the transatlantic alliance remains vital for the future of freedom in the world.
