Boomerang for Erdogan's anti-Hellenic delirium

I was looking with concern and suspicion, a few days ago, at the results of a large poll in Turkey, whose conclusions - in terms of interactive interaction - are similar to the three joint Greek-Turkish polls (ELIAMEP's research partnership ”interEOSIS”, May-June 2022), which most of us interpreted at the time as... inspired by the spirit of ’Greek-Turkish friendship”, aiming to prepare the ground for the leaders of the two countries to ”co-exploit” the Aegean.

According to the company Metropoll, therefore - which conducted the survey in question - the 64of the Turks considers the Greek friends and not enemies... (It should be noted that these include 73.8% of Kilicdaroglu's Kemalists [CHP], 60.3% of the Erdogan AKP voters, 57.8% of the far-right Nationalist Action Party of the ”Grey Wolves” [MHP] of Erdogan's co-governor Bahçeli and the 65.1% of the Grey Wolf [İyi Parti] split) !!!

What is even more impressive is that 51.5% of Turkish public opinion attributes the tension in Greek-Turkish relations to President Erdogan for electoral reasons!!! And this is too good and... philhellenic to be true.

Which means that ”there is a hole in the fava bean”, as the saying goes. And the ”fava” has to do with our complacency. Complacency, naivety and gullibility that has always characterized us Greeks, when we take at face value the diplomatic flexibility of ”intimacy” on the part of the Turks, (cf. zebedecky Foreign Minister GAP to the applause of his Turkish counterpart  Ishmael Gem, 2001, bunches and ”philhellenic” polls) as an indication of their real intentions.

Pretexts in sin, that is, of the well-established Turkish propaganda that made it a stereotype that the Turks love the Greeks and that their leaders are responsible for everything. This was shown, after all, ”yesterday” (1974) with Attila's invasion of Cyprus (where the Turkish occupation was perpetuated for 48 years) and their landing in Imia in ’96.

This was also evident ”today” (21/08/’22)with Erdogan's hate speech at the UN which was aimed atdefamation of Greece, with evidence of staged photos of drowned children who were (allegedly) lost in the Aegean Sea under the responsibility of the Greek authorities, so that the Turkish President can substantiate the accusation that Greece is responsible for crimes against humanity!!!!.

It should be noted that, in addition to his threatening messages about Cyprus (two states), immigration, the rights of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and the questioning of Greek sovereignty of our islands (”One night we may suddenly come”) added to the highly... ”cooperative” and ”solidarity” that the UN launched against us.

Thus, on the occasion of our - obvious and legal - deportations of migrants and refugees, he found the opportunity to include our violation of human rights (”discrimination” and ”oppression”) against the Muslim (”Turkish”, according to him) minority of Thrace.

And this at a time when he himself is acting behind the scenes as an (institutional) slave trader, instrumentalising his migrant army under the burden of mass killings of civilians (see the bombing and cold-blooded executions of Kurdish Yezidis after the invasion of Syria by Turkish troops, October 2019).

At a time when Turkey has a rich history of ethno-racial and religious genocide (see. Genocides of Armenians, Assyrians, Pontian and Asia Minor Greeks in the East, as well as Greeks of Eastern Thrace).

But who remembers all that? Not, however, Tayyip Erdogan, who denies it and - in view of the centenary of the Republic of Turkey in 23rd June and the general elections on 14th June - is preparing celebrations with a bellicose mood and a bellicose ending, without excluding Turkish operations on the ground against Greece and Cyprus.

This, it seems, is dictated by his megalithic vision of the ”Blue Homeland”, the realization of which was encouraged by the title of ”peacemaker” that inflated his mind with air. His brains and his ambitions, since the role of mediator was won with his sword by Tayyip Erdogan thanks to his diplomatic flexibility, which was triggered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

With this and with this - which includes exceeding the limits of insult against Greece, since it accuses it of being a war criminal (see. ’genocide’ of Turks in Tripolitsa in 1821 and the claim for reparations from the Asia Minor Campaign of the Greeks in 19) - the neo-Ottoman visions of the Turkish President were set on fire.

They caught fire blurring the negative picture of the Turkish economy and the turmoil in which Turkish society finds itself. However, ”There is a God”, as our people say in such cases and as our ancestor Aeschylus affirms in his play: ”For hubris is the most exalted of all‘ I've grown fatwhence the pancreas Hexama Summer = For arrogance, when it is at its worst, reaps the wheat of destruction, from which it reaps many-branched fruits’, ”PERSAI”).

So - just when Tayyip Erdogan was galloping on the horse of his arrogance, confident that there is no power to stop him since Greece and Cyprus have been acting in a pacifying manner for years and the West was pinned down under a mandrake, leaving him a free field for the realization of his expansionist plans - he came, in the first phase, the thunderous ”slap” of the rejection of the Turkish claims to the Aegean islands by the USA-Germany-France and in the second phase from the UN headquarters the catalytic position against Turkey of Eamon Gilmore.

The words of the EU Special Envoy to the UN were a punch in the gut of Erdogan and his supporters, because he accused Turkey of political discrimination, for a policy of extermination essentially at the expense of the human rights of the Greek minority, which have resulted in its shrinkage to such an extent that it is now on the ”brink of extinction”.

This is what the Turkish writer, journalist and professor of political science, Jengiz Aktar*, seems to have had in mind when he said in 19 that ”Turkey's violent past explains its present and future”.

These made the former director of the UNHCR in Slovenia talk about totalitarianism in his country and how it is linked to the refusal to acknowledge the atrocities committed by the country.

The ”confession” of a Turkish Muslim, in this case, is equivalent to the strongest evidence of historical truth:

«A society that accepts the atrocities of the past, can easily accept any atrocities committed today.. The atrocities committed against non-Muslims in Turkey have gone unpunished for 100 years. But the nations they try to forget inevitably live with their ghosts. The impunity of these crimes, the violence that was not condemned, permeated the society and became the dominant political culture in Turkey today,» he argued. Genghis Akhtar.

- How strange, the same gloomy picture of Turkey is described by the Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk, talking about a phase of tyranny and sadism that Turkey is going through and about Erdogan's tyrannical behaviour..., I hear you saying upset.

I too am hanging on to this assessment and testimony of the Turkish intellectuals, in the hope that our politicians will forever rule out the naivety behind their support for Turkey's European policy and will respond to Erdogan's anti-Hellenic behaviour with the highest possible level of deterrence, so that we put an end to his spirit of revisionism which breeds expansionism at the expense of the national interests of Greece and Cyprus..
