The Prime Minister announced the end of the simple proportional representation in the local authorities, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, during today's Council of Ministers. In particular, he pointed out that it is «an explicit pre-election commitment which puts a definitive end to the ungovernability of the organs of self-government».
From the local elections in 2023, the regional governors and the mayors will serve again for five years with a guaranteed majority in municipal and regional councils. They will be elected on the first Sunday if they collect 43% of the votes and their combination will occupy 3/5 of the seats on the council.
