The Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in a post on social media claimed that the end of the Maduro regime offers new hope for Venezuela.
He even avoided taking a position on the US invasion of Venezuela and the kidnapping of Maduro and his wife, saying that “this is not the time to comment on the legality of recent actions”. He called the Maduro government a dictatorship.
Finally, he noted that our country will coordinate with the EU and the UN Security Council and will ensure the safety of Greek citizens living in Venezuela.
The post of Kyriakos Mitsotakis:
“Nicolás Maduro has led a brutal and oppressive dictatorship that has caused untold suffering to the Venezuelan people. The end of his regime offers new hope for the country.
This is not the time to comment on legality of recent actions. The priority must now be to ensure a peaceful and rapid transition to a new, inclusive government. which will enjoy full democratic legitimacy.
«Greece will coordinate with its partners in the European Union and the UN Security Council on the issue. We remain committed to ensuring the security of Greek citizens in the country.».
Earlier, government officials responding to journalists' questions about Athens' stance on the US invasion of Venezuela said:
“We are in constant consultation with our European partners. We await further updates in relation to the data on the ground. We call for restraint to avoid escalation. The diplomatic mission of Greece is in constant communication with the Greek community in Venezuela. The Crisis Management Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is ready to provide the necessary assistance if required for evacuations.”
