Dear compatriots
-It is time for a new promising start for our islands.
-It is time to join forces, to multiply possibilities, to remove those who divide us...
-It is time for Kythera and Antikythera to embark on a development path with vision, with selected strategies and with people who guarantee all of the above.
For years, our faction «Kythira-Antikythera, We Live Here» has been trying to contribute with proposals, positions and objections, seeking the decisive improvement of the living and working conditions of our compatriots, the progress of our islands. Our priority was and is the productive reconstruction of our islands. A reconstruction that emphasizes both the productive base, the infrastructure and the democratic functioning of the Municipality and its institutions.
In this context, we have always tried and continue to try (in some cases successfully) to bring together broader forces in joint actions. Our proposals have always been addressed to the whole of the local government forces, (opposition and co-opposition), but also to the whole of the inhabitants of our islands. Our aim has always been to achieve a broader rallying around targeted actions. Some of our proposals were accepted, such as those concerning energy issues in general, more specifically the Energy Community, but also cultural actions.
Usually, however, these proposals came up against the over-centralised and authoritarian leadership of the Municipality, which acted unilaterally, ignoring all other proposals. This deprived our islands of the benefits of the convergence and joint action of all the forces that are willing and able to contribute.
It is obvious that a radical change in our municipal affairs can only come with a change of the municipal authority, but also a change of mentality. We have long been trying to contribute to the appropriate convergences to make this a reality.
The recent declaration of our compatriot, a well-known businessman and experienced local administrator, Mr. Zacharias Souris, signals the possibility of broader convergence, without dependence on any centre of political or economic power. His declaration includes objectives and orientations that are very close to our own proposals. We believe that it is a strong basis for a different, regenerative programme for our municipality.
On this basis therefore, our party, «Kythira-Antikythera We live here» supports the candidacy of Zacharias Souris for Mayor.
We believe that it is a promising option to rally all democratic citizens of Kythera and Antikythera outside and beyond any various. An option that truly allows us to move forward TOGETHER
