With a warm, human and festive event, the annual activities of the Kytheraiki Brotherhood of Piraeus-Athens were completed on Saturday 18 June. The farewell evening was held on the roof of the historical building of the Brotherhood, overlooking the Piraeus sky and the port, filling the center of Piraeus with sounds, aromas and memories of the homeland.
The opening was made by the music department of the Association, led by Manolis Stathis, filling the space with melodies and children's voices. This was followed by the President's greeting, setting the tone of the evening and thanking everyone who participated in the year's activities.
The event was the result of a collective effort: the Board of Directors and the members of the Brotherhood prepared with care a rich table, with traditional barbecues and fine dishes, offered by the women of the Association. The music of the evening belonged to the Kythera family Stathi (Spithea), who with their vitality and love for the island, created an atmosphere worthy of a summer rendezvous in Kythera.
A special moment was the awarding of the winners of the evening, with the President presenting them with caps and medals in a humorous yet touching symbolic act. At the same time, the dancers received commemorative shirts with the Association's logo, thus sealing their participation and their connection to the collective memory and the place.
The evening ended with the wish for a good summer and the promise of a reunion in Kythera, the island that unites and inspires. Where roots, memory and the Kytherian society come alive again every year, thanks to the dedication of the Kytherians of the diaspora.
