Municipal Councilman Manos Trifyllis, representing the minority opposition and the “We Stay Here,” indirectly but clearly responding to the celebrations of Mayor Efstratios Charhalakis. The statement follows:
«Since we know all about letters and have had our fill of schemes, we declare the
as follows.
The (lack of) response from the Decentralized Administration to the appeal filed by the entire opposition of the Municipality of Kythira regarding the euphemistically termed ’teleconferences” of the municipal council is nothing more than an attempt to avoid taking a position.
As expected, the supervisory authority refused to publicly expose the undemocratic tactics of the municipal majority and the “initiatives” of Mayor Stratos Charchalakis. The most likely scenario is that, following some phone calls from higher up, the City Council is finally meeting in accordance with the law, and the majority is enduring the ordeal of scrutiny and proposals from the city council members. After all, that’s why they never replied to us—because they stopped the virtuous exchange of modern emails…
We refuse to accept that the coronavirus pandemic should serve as a pretext for undermining democratic processes, which we are seeing both at the local level and within the central government…
