Manolis Glezos, Europe’s last partisan, was in Kythira in 2002 as part of his campaign tour as a candidate for super-prefect of Athens – Piraeus, alongside prefectural candidate Evi Karakosta. TTV Kythira met with them and conducted this historic interview.
During that visit to Kythira, Manolis Glezos shared his experience with the residents of Tsirigota regarding water management. As the village head of his hometown, Apeiranthos on Naxos, he implemented a plan involving a network of diverse projects, such as reforestation and nurseries to support native vegetation, dozens of dams scattered along the natural riverbeds, reservoirs and aqueducts, the enhancement of natural springs, and terraced farming, among other measures.
In their interview with Dimitris Marselo, Manolis Glezos and Evi Karakosta discuss the island’s problems and put forward their proposals, pledging to pursue them after the prefectural elections. They also discuss the content of their conversation with Kythira Mayor Artemios Kalligeros and the shared demands of the first and second levels of local government.
