The extension of the lockdown and restrictive measures in Attica, seems to be preferred by the experts of the Ministry of Health, which is expected to be finalized at the meeting of Friday, 19/02.
Although the epidemiological data show a stabilisation of the situation in the basin, the pressure still being exerted on the NHS, leaves no room for complacency.
What is of primary concern to infectious disease specialists is the increasing trend in mutant coronavirus outbreaks circulating in the country, which, according to the latest information from the Hellenic Health Service, amount to 495 for the British mutation and 7 for the South African mutation.
Extension of measures beyond 28 February
It is a fact that the National Health System is suffocating, which is proven by the fact that the Ministry of Health has secured, after negotiation, additional ICU beds and simple covid beds from private clinics. With this in mind, but also on the basis of the epidemiological data, which show a stable spread, with no apparent downward trends at present, it is very likely that the measures will be extended beyond the 28 February deadline. Indeed, announcements in this regard may even be postponed until next week.
Double mask
As regards the double mask, tomorrow Friday, 19/02, the experts of the Ministry of Health's committee on its use are expected to announce their decision. The committee of experts, met on the issue in the past few days and is expected to recommend its decisions to the government.
In fact, a subcommittee had been set up to study the issue of double mask and its effectiveness. Based on early data, the two masks appear to improve protection, even reaching 95%, which reinforces the experts' position that they should be used by civilians.
There is reportedly concern about whether there should be a strong recommendation or whether the measure should be mandatory.
However, the two points where citizens should wear a double mask are Public transport and supermarkets.
«2 more regions »redden"
Meanwhile, 13 regions of the country are of concern to experts and authorities as they have a high epidemiological burden.
In addition to the Attica and the Thessaloniki, which are now permanently in the red, there is also an increase in other Regional Units such as Achaia, in Euboea, in Rethymno, in Ilia, in Corinthia, in Thassos, in Argolida, in Boeotia, in Kefalonia, in Kalymnos, in Karpathos, in Ioannina and in Heraklion.
Information of the ethnos.gr, state that probably The Ioannina and Kalymnos will enter the red zone of the sanitary map.
